Local bowlers finish fourth at provincials

The Fort Frances senior girls’ bowling team, representing Sunset Country, finished fourth at a provincial bowling tournament in Thunder Bay earlier this month.
The team of Megan Bale, Allison AmOrde, Carolyn O’Brien, Tina Hyatt, and Cristy Beadle wound up with a four-game total of 3,883 pins–just 133 behind the gold medallists from Thunder Bay.
Cambrian North was second at 3,986, followed by Timmins (3,934).
The Sunset Country team combined to bowl games of 1,075, 848, 988, and 972.
“We bowled very well,” said coach Janet Ellis, whose team rolled games of 1,075, 848, 988, and 972. “It was the second game which hurt us.
“If we would have [bowled better], we would have won,” she noted.
AmOrde led the local contigent, finishing with a team-high 848 total (195, 218, 199, and 236) for a 212 average. Next was Bale, who bowled games of 227, 183, 187, and 218 for a 815 total and 203 average.
Ellis said Bale bowled “well above” her average at the tournament.
Cristy Beadle had the next highest average at 197 (238, 152, 201, and 199), followed by Hyatt at 174 (233, 144, 166, and 155).
