Local bowlers advance

Local bowlers Scott Foster and Travis Michl are heading to the provincial round of the annual Hi-Low Doubles tournament.
The pair teamed up for a +84 to finish second in the zone round, which was held Saturday and Sunday in Atikokan.
Foster and Michl, who went into the tournament with a combined average of 299, rolled combined scores of 309, 287, 329, 295, and 359 to finish with a 1,579 total.
Dennis Barras and Lisa Morden of Atikokan earned the first berth at the provincials after cruising to top spot with a whopping +321 total after their five games.
Jack Pitchenese and Frank Coulson of Dryden took third place with a +78—just six pins behind Foster and Michl—while Fort bowlers Mike Behan and Alaina Arbour were another pin behind at +77 to settle for fourth spot.
Entering the tournament with a combined average of 348, Behan and Arbour rolled combined scores of 414, 306, 377, 327, and 393 to finish with a total of 1,817.
Other Fort Frances teams competing in the zone round included Bob Petawanaqueb and June Wood (-125), Lori Pattison and Anne-Marie Armstrong (-154), and Don Wood and Kelly Sigurdson (-163).
As well, three local bowlers competed in the zone round of the Executive tournament over the weekend in Atikokan.
Jason Rousseau finished in third place in the Presidents division with a +14, Shirley Jensson was fifth in the Treasurers division (-99), and Marc Desforge took fourth in the Secretaries division (-29).
Only the top bowler in each division advanced to the provincials, which will be held later this winter in Dryden.
