Lindner, Capra win KBI

Dave and Norm Lindsay had a good day Sunday but they failed to win the “triple crown.”
With victories at Shoal Lake and Fort Frances already under their belts, the Sioux Narrows brothers were heavy favourites going into the 10th-annual Kenora Bass International tournament last weekend.
And while they weighed in the best catch (15 pounds) on the final day of the derby, they only managed to finish sixth overall.
Instead, it was the duo of Jim Lindner and Ted Capra who captured the KBI with a combined two-day weight of 32 pounds.
Lindner and Capra lead the 183-team tournament from start to finish, edging the Manitoba connection of Peter Adams and Calvin Burtniak, who finished second with 31.05 pounds.
Clint Barton and Denis Barnard were the top Fort Frances team in the tournament, finishing 44th overall with a two-day total of 19.90 pounds. They were consistent throughout, reeling in catches of 10 pounds Saturday and then 9.9 pounds on Sunday.
But it was a tough first day for most teams because of the high wind, said Barnard, which he compared those that plagued the first year of the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship.
“Our trolling motor quit by 9 a.m. so we had a tough time holding our spots and we had to change our way of fishing.
“It’s pretty tough to troll with a 150-horsepower motor,” he cracked.
Greg Stahn and John Ossachuk, also from this area, finished 90th overall after bringing in 12.4 pounds of fish. The pair weighed in 9.8 pounds on the first day but only managed 2.6 pounds Sunday.
Meanwhile, the father-son combination of Greg and James Asplund finished 156th overall, reeling in 4.9 pounds on Saturday but then getting skunked Sunday.
