Lightning clinch second

The playoff fate of the Big Grassy Lightning was in their hands—and they made the most of it.
The Lightning (13-5) clinched second place—and a first-round bye—after dumping the reeling Sabaskong Cubs (10-8) by an 8-2 score last night in the final game of the RRDFL’s regular season.
Ryan Jack hit a home run to support winning pitcher Jeff Morrison.
The Cubs’ Don Copenace went deep while taking the loss.
Sight & Sound finished the regular season with a similar 13-5 record, but dropped to third place on the tie-breaker (the Lightning had scored more runs).
As such, the Wolves will open the playoffs against the Cubs next Tuesday (July 27).
Tuesday’s other first-round match-ups include No. 4 Big Grassy Braves (12-6) vs. No. 5 Rainy River (10-8), No. 7 Stratton (9-9) vs. No. 8 Northwest Bay (3-15), and No. 9 Big Island (3-15) vs. No. 10 Manitou (2-16).
The Lightning and Barwick, who finished in first place with a 15-3 record, don’t start playoff action until next Thursday (July 29).
