Lee just misses provincial berth

Stratton’s Angela Lee fell one win short of qualifying for the Ontario Scott Tournament of Hearts after losing to Jodi Judd (Thunder Bay) 7-5 in the final draw of the ladies’ district playdowns over the weekend in Terrace Bay.
The loss dropped Lee (4-3) to third-place in the eight-rink event while Judd and Tara George (Fort William) qualified by taking the top two spots.
The Ontario Scott Tournament of Hearts will be played Jan. 22-26 in Thunder Bay. That winner will advance to the Canadian showdown.
Rainy River’s Diane Adams finished in a three-way tie for fourth with a 3-4 record.
Both Lee and Judd entered the seventh draw with 4-2 records. And Lee jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the three ends before Judd scored two each in the fourth and fifth ends to grab a 5-4 advantage.
Lee tied the game in the seventh, but gave up singles in the eighth and ninth ends to fall behind for good.
Lee also had finished third behind Adams and Dawn Sauve (Dryden) at the zone playdowns last month in Dryden, but she was invited to compete at the districts when no Terrace Bay club entered.
The Stratton native, who now lives in Thunder Bay to attend college, brought her all-Lakehead rink to Terrace Bay and enjoyed a share of top spot after the first three draws.
Sauve, who topped the zone playdowns, finished in last place at Terrace Bay with a 2-5 record.
