League setting up for thrilling finishes

Fort Frances is the place to be if you like playoff soccer action.
Both the men’s and women’s divisions of the Borderland Soccer League were setting up to have thrilling finishes to the playoffs.
In men’s action on Monday night, top-ranked Centra Pipelines and second-place CJ Contracting battled to a scoreless draw in the opener of the two-game, total-goals final at the St. Francis Sports Field.
The second-and-deciding game was slated to go last night, with the outcome not known as of press time.
CJ, who is the defending champ, had advanced to the final after defeating last-place Manitou Forest Products 3-1 on aggregate score in the two-game, total-goals semi-final last week.
Kevin Metke scored twice to pace CJ to a narrow 2-1 win in the deciding game last Thursday night.
Nick Hahkala bulged the twine in a losing cause for Manitou while Jacob Albright garnered the win in goal over Mark Faragher.
The women’s division winner-takes-all final between the first-place La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs and second-place Al’s Racquet Stringing also was slated for last night, with the outcome not known as of press time.
