It’s a good thing Katie Beninger continues to score at a torrid pace because her responsibilities on Kicker Instinct just multiplied exponentially.
Beninger notched her second-straight hat trick to help carry the first-place squad to a 5-2 win over Goal Diggers in Borderland Women’s Indoor Soccer League action last night.
With 13 goals, Beninger tops the league’s scoring race.
But she and the rest of the squad, which now has won two-straight game, will have to make do without scoring ace Maggie Jean for the rest of the season.
Jean, who earned the league’s Golden Boot Award last season with 18 goals, is out after sustaining a concussion during a game Feb. 8 against Goal Diggers that has kept her sidelined since then.
Becky Selman appeared ready to pick up the offensive slack–supplying the other two goals for Kicker Instinct last night.
Paige Nelson, who missed last week’s game, continued her impressive rookie season by getting both markers for Goal Diggers (3-4).
She sits second in the league behind Beninger with 11 goals.
The Goal Diggers’ loss allowed D-Feeters (3-4) to move into a third-place tie after they snapped a two-game losing streak with a 5-0 shutout over Tough Enough (2-5) in the night’s other game.
Jaymee Fiset had a hat trick for D-Feeters while rookie sensation Charmaine Langlais registered her second two-goal game of the season.
Tough Enough now has dropped two-straight games to fall into the league basement.
Action next Wednesday will see Kicker Instinct face Tough Enough at 7 p.m., followed by D-Feeters clashing with Goal Diggers at 8:15 p.m.
