The Fort Frances Lakers find themselves in second place in the SIJHL standings after a 6-3 win over the Minnesota Iron Rangers here Saturday night.
It was their second-straight win—and fifth-consecutive at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The Lakers now sport an 8-4-0-1 record for 17 points, which puts them one up on the Thunder Bay North Stars and three ahead of Dryden Ice Dogs.
The defending Bill Salonen Cup champion Minnesota Wilderness lead the six-team loop with a 14-3-0-0 mark (28 points).
Saturday’s triumph saw the offence spread throughout the lineup, with Jordan Christianson, Merritt Rysavy, Davis Smith, and Mason Meyer all picking up a goal and an assist.
Kevin Kurm also had a two-point night thanks to a pair of helpers while Alex Bruess and Patrick Sofer rounded out the scoring for the Lakers.
The Lakers now are preparing for a three-game set against the Ice Dogs, with the first meeting going tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Dryden.
The teams then will square off at the Ice For Kids Arena on Friday night before tangling again in Dryden the following evening.
In other news, the Lakers added 18-year-old forward Miles Nolan to their roster Friday after completing a trade with the NOJHL’s Abitibi Eskimos.
Nolan, who is joining his older brother, Jordan, here, had a goal and five assists for the Eskimos prior to the deal.
