The Fort Frances Lakers’ recent run of success came to an end last night in Dryden.
The Ice Dogs skated to a 7-5 triumph that not only ended the Lakers’ four-game win streak, but also prevented the squad from overtaking Dryden for third place in the SIJHL standings.
The hosts jumped out a 4-1 lead near the end of the first period, and were able to respond to any comeback attempts by the Lakers throughout the rest of the game.
Forward Paul Thompson led the home side with a hat trick and an assist while Dan Morin added a pair of goals and two assists.
Tyson Holder and Rory Court also scored for the Ice Dogs, with Jesse Linner chipping in with three helpers.
Colton Spicer and Merritt Rysavy both had three-point nights for the Lakers. Spicer netted a goal and adding two assists while Rysavy had three helpers.
Ethan Brekke, Jon Carlson, Alex Bruess, and Jordan Christianson also scored for the visitors.
The Lakers (4-4-0-1) will look to put this setback behind them when they return to the Ice For Kids Arena here Thursday (Oct. 18) at 7:30 p.m. to face the Minnesota Iron Rangers.
In related news, the SIJHL announced prior to yesterday’s game that Rysavy had been named as the player-of-the-week.
The Lakers’ captain earned the honour after scoring four goals and picking up an assist in his team’s two wins here over the weekend.
Rysavy, a 20-year-old from Sioux Falls, S.D., joins goalie Tanner Hamilton as Laker recipients of the award so far this season.
