Lakers stay at ninth

It’s a top 10 list that won’t make it onto “Late Night with David Letterman,” but one on which the Fort Frances Lakers are proud to have landed.
The Lakers remained in the No. 9 spot for the second-straight week in this season’s final edition of the CJHL’s weekly top 20 rankings, which were announced yesterday.
The Portage Terriers (MJHL), who will host the RBC Cup national Junior ‘A’ championship in May, kept hold of the top spot, as was the case for almost the entire season.
Portage was followed in the final rankings by the Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL), the Aurora Tigers (OJHL), the Camrose Kodiaks (AJHL), and the Carleton Place Canadians (CCHL).
The Lakers already are guaranteed a spot in the Dudley Hewitt Cup from April 28-May 2 as the host team, with the winner advancing to the RBC Cup.
Fort Frances (39-10-0-1) has clinched first place in the SIJHL and will have home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
The squad will open the post-season against the winner of the series between the last-place English River Miners (10-35-4) and whichever team finishes fourth.
The Lakers host English River tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena in the opener of a home-and-home series.
