The early-season race for first place in the SIJHL continues to flip-flop.
The Fort Frances Lakers regained top spot Saturday night with a 3-0 win over the visiting Thunder Bay North Stars.
By improving to 9-2-0-0, the Lakers have 18 points—one better than the second-place Dryden GM Ice Dogs.
The Ice Dogs (8-2-1-0) briefly had reclaimed first place Friday night with a 3-1 win versus the North Stars after the Lakers had taken over top spot with a 3-2 win over the English River Miners last Tuesday.
The Minnesota Iron Rangers (6-7-1-0) hold down third place with 13 points.
The Miners (4-6-1-3) are next, followed by the North Stars (5-8-0-1) in fifth.
After a scoreless first period Saturday night, Carter Chorney put the Lakers up 1-0 at 11:05 of the second.
Dustin Deugau (power play) and Ryley Bosman added third-period goals to ice the win.
Pierce Dushenko turned aside all 27 shots he faced to earn the shutout.
Riley Corbin faced 35 shots in taking the loss for the North Stars.
The Lakers are back in action tomorrow when they host the Iron Rangers at 7:30 p.m.
