Two nights after narrowly losing to the Dryden GM Ice Dogs there, it was close for two periods in the rematch here Friday night.
But Eric Stout and Matthew Pitchenese connected just 53 seconds apart in the third to send the Ice Dogs to a 5-2 win.
Dryden got on the board first with a power-play goal midway through the opening period when captain Trevor Kavanaugh unleashed a point blast that beat Lakers’ starter Brett Akins.
Stout then struck short-handed early in the second to put the visitors up by two.
Julian Uhryniuk got one back for the Lakers at 5:38 but Dakotah Woods notched his first SIJHL tally at 10:45 for Dryden’s second man-advantage marker of the game.
Ian Jarvis did bring the Lakers back to within one to make it a 3-2 game after 40 minutes.
Jacob Gnidziejko made 38 stops to earn the win.
Akins suffered the loss, allowing all five goals on 35 shots before Ismael Ralsten handled each attempt he saw in relief for the Lakers.
The Lakers (6-18-1-1) next visit the English River Miners tonight, then host that same squad tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena before going on their Christmas break.
The Lakers, mired in a nine-game losing streak, remain in fifth place in the six-team SIJHL with 14 points.
The Thief River Falls Norskies (28-1-0-0) sit in top spot, followed by the Ice Dogs (19-3-4-1) in second and the Thunder Bay North Stars (16-9-3-0) in third.
The Miners (11-12-0-3) remain in fourth place–11 points ahead of the Lakers.
The Minnesota Iron Rangers occupy last place (2-23-1-2).
