The Fort Frances Lakers weren’t too keen on the view from outside the penthouse, so they moved back in.
Third-period goals by Bryson Jasper and Colton Spicer lifted the Lakers to a 3-2 win over the host Dryden GM Ice Dogs on Saturday night.
A four-game winning streak had moved the Thunder Bay North Stars (12-5) past Fort Frances (12-5-1) for top spot.
The local squad, which now has won two-straight, only played one game in the past week.
Their home game last Tuesday against Dryden was postponed after four Ice Dogs were involved in a two-vehicle accident that left them too undermanned to ice a team.
With all hands back on deck Saturday, Dryden (8-7-2) jumped out to the lead at 18:05 of the first when Chris Baumen beat Devin Tappenden for the lone goal of the stanza.
Lucas DeBenedet tied things up with his first goal in his second game back with the Lakers, connecting on the power play at 13:08 of the second.
DeBenedet then teamed with Mason Meyer to set up Jasper at 7:31 of the third to give the Fort its first lead of the night.
Spicer added what turned out to be an vital insurance marker at 10:37 on assists from Wyatt Cota and Nick Minerva, who notched his first point as a Laker in his debut.
Eric Masters drew the Ice Dogs closer at 15:04, but two late Dryden power plays came up empty as the Lakers killed off all five short-handed situations.
The Lakers are back on the ice Wednesday night when they host the Minnesota Iron Rangers (7-6-2).
