The Fort Frances Lakers completed a minor deal yesterday, shipping defenceman Jake Wentz to Sioux Lookout in exchange for forward Brad Bienvenu.
In Bienvenu, the Lakers get a forward with three points (a goal and two assists) so far this season after racking up seven goals and 24 points last year.
The 20-year-old Sherwood Park, Alta. native also added a pair of assists in seven post-season games.
Lakers’ head coach and GM Wayne Strachan expects the 6’2”, 195-pound Bienvenu will add leadership, size, and “a big physical presence” for the team.
Strachan expected to have Bienvenu in town last night, practising today, and in the lineup against the Fort William North Stars tomorrow night in Thunder Bay.
Wentz, a 19-year-old from Bismarck, N.D., had just a cup of coffee with the Lakers.
He was pointless, along with 11 penalty minutes, in eight games this season.
Converted to a forward during his brief stint here, Strachan noted in a release that Wentz is expected to be given a chance to drop back to his natural position with Sioux Lookout.
