Lakers losing captain

The Fort Frances Lakers have announced that captain Julian Uhryniuk has committed to play for the Trinity Western University Spartans next season.
The Langley, B.C.-based program is coming off a BCIHL championship this past year.
Uhryniuk will join defenceman Dustin Deugau, a fellow Lakers’ alumnus and his roommate from the 2015-16 championship team here, who played a key role for the Spartans in winning the BCIHL title this past season.
“Julian was a huge part of our team for three seasons,” Lakers’ head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan said.
“To me, he was all we wanted in a Lakers’ player,” Strachan noted.
“He would do whatever you asked, lead the way, his work ethic was endless, and he was always prepared to give his all.”
In three seasons with the Lakers, the 21-year-old Uhryniuk skated in 139 SIJHL games, producing 28 goals and 71 points.
“He will be hard to replace,” Strachan conceded.
“But his commitment has paid off and we are excited for the next step in his life as a student-athlete,” he added.
“We wish him the best of luck.”
