Lakers get centre

If bloodlines count for anything, the Fort Frances Lakers just may have pulled off a steal of a deal.
The squad yesterday acquired forward Jared Virtanen from the Victoria Grizzlies (BCHL) for a player development fee.
The 20-year-old from Abbotsford, B.C. is the cousin of Jake Virtanen, drafted sixth overall by Vancouver back in 2014.
“We are very pleased to add Jared and his ability to our lineup,” said Lakers’ head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.
“He is a big body centre we have desired for a couple of years now.
Virtanen began last season with the Calgary Mustangs (AJHL), where he netted six goals and 10 assists in 22 games.
He then was dealt to the Grizzlies, where he added five goals and seven assists in 29 games.
The Lakers also announced defenceman Dustin Deugau has committed to play for the Trinity Western Spartans in Langley, B.C. although he had one year of junior eligibility remaining.
