With the SIJHL regular season now in the books, the Fort Frances Lakers are preparing to kick off their post-season run this weekend against the league-leading Wisconsin Wilderness.
The top two teams from the regular season are squaring off in a pair of two-game, total-goal mini series, with the winner earning the right to choose their semi-final opponent.
The first two-game series will take place this Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in Spooner, with the second one going at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday and Friday (March 10 and 11) at the Ice For Kids Arena here.
If the teams are tied on goals following either of the two-game sets, the winner will be decided via a shootout, with the same rules applying if the teams split each of the series.
Meanwhile, the SIJHL’s other four teams will battle in it out in a pair of best-of-seven quarter-final match-ups starting this week.
The third-seeded Dryden Ice Dogs will host the cellar-dwelling Duluth Clydesdales starting Thursday night while the fourth-seeded Thunder Bay North Stars open their series with the fifth-seeded Sioux Lookout Flyers on Friday in the Lakehead.
