Lakers’ Forward Stone Stelzl secures NCAA comittment

Press Release

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – The Fort Frances Lakers of the Superior International Junior Hockey League have announced their initial NCAA Division III commitment for the season.

Lakers’ forward Stone Stelzl has been recruited to attend school at Castleton University in Vermont where the Spartans are members of the New England Hockey Conference.

In 54 games this season, the 20-year-old Blaine, Minn., product collected 44 points for Fort Frances on 19 tallies and 24 assists to finish third on his squad in offensive production.

“We would like to congratulate Stone on his commitment and wish him the best of luck in his studies and as he furthers his hockey career,” said Lakers’ head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.

“He was a big part of our team, on and off the ice” added the winningest coach in SIJHL history.

“He worked hard daily to better himself and reach his goals. We are proud that he is getting this opportunity and know he will take full advantage of it to be successful,” concluded Strachan, a former NCAA standout himself at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., where he was a member of two national championship squads, in 1992 and 1994.
