Lakers fall to No. 4

Staff

One hiccup cost the Fort Frances Lakers two spots in the national rankings.
The Lakers were bumped from their previous franchise-best position of No. 2 to No. 4 in the latest Canadian Junior ‘A’ Hockey League top 20 rankings.
Fort Frances (18-1-0-2) had its 15-game winning streak snapped last Tuesday (Nov. 19) in a 5-4 shootout loss to the host Thunder Bay North Stars.
The Lakers have since recovered from that stumble—nipping the Minnesota Iron Rangers 6-5 in a shootout in Hoyt Lakes the following night before dumping the Wisconsin Wilderness 6-1 here Friday.
The Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League continue to hold the top position in the rankings.
The AJHL’s Spruce Grove Saints (No. 2) and the Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canada Hockey League (No. 3) both moved past the Lakers in the rankings.
Thunder Bay jumped one spot to No. 15.
The Lakers are in to Spooner tonight for the second of three-straight games against the Wilderness.
Wisconsin then is back here Friday at 7:30 p.m. to close out the home-home-and-home series.
