The Fort Frances Lakers wrapped up their regular-season road schedule on a winning note with a 3-1 victory over the Dryden Ice Dogs last night.
Tanner Hamilton, a 20-year-old from Saskatoon, made 34 saves to earn his 12th win of the campaign.
Blake Boaz, Jordan Christianson, and Ryan Wildman were the goal scorers, with Byron Katapaytuk collecting an assist to re-take the SIJHL scoring lead over Sioux Lookout Flyers’ forward Anthony Wolfe.
Katapaytuk now has 80 points to Wolfe’s 79.
Last night also was a nice bounce-back win for the Lakers, who were coming off a narrow 3-2 overtime setback to the regular-season champion Wisconsin Wilderness on Friday night in Spooner.
Despite two goals from Christianson in regulation time, the Wilderness proved to be too strong as Steve Hughes notched a power-play goal to keep Wisconsin’s perfect home record intact.
The Lakers will wrap up their regular-season schedule on home ice, hosting the Flyers on Thursday night before clashing with the Thunder Bay North Stars on Saturday.
“We’re just looking to maintain our work ethic, play with intensity, and get into playoff mode in our last two games here,” said Lakers’ head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.
“We have accomplished some very good things here this regular season, and we are looking forward to achieving more once the playoffs start.”
