The Fort Frances Lakers left Thunder Bay last night seeing “Stars” yet again.
Nicholas Nigro and Jake Robinson each tallied twice as the host North Stars remained perfect this season against the Lakers with a 6-1 pounding in the opener of their home-and-home series.
The rematch is set for tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The Lakers (14-14-2-3), who are now 0-6-0-2 against second-place Thunder Bay so far this season, had their three-game winning streak resoundingly snapped.
They also blew a chance to move into fourth place past the English River Miners (15-14-1-3) after falling apart following a scoreless first period.
It was all downhill from there, though, as Thunder Bay outshot the Fort 31-12 over the final two periods while netting six unanswered goals.
Four of those came in the second, with Robinson getting things going on at 8:19 on the power play.
Austin Storm beat Lakers’ goalie Jessie Heisz only 1:15 later before Robinson struck again at 11:47.
Nigro notched another man-advantage at 16:24 to make it 4-0.
Brendan Gillis (power play) and Nigro added third-period goals before Matt Tustin spoiled Jordan Elliott’s shutout bid at 9:01.
Forwards Austin Petrie (ankle) and Tanner Garnham (upper-body), along with defenceman Brandon Zajicek (indefinite league suspension), weren’t in the Lakers’ lineup for last night’s game.
