The chances of employment for prospective Fort Frances Lakers’ defencemen just improved.
The Lakers announced yesterday they traded blueliner Simon Desrosiers, 19, to the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for a player development fee.
“We wish Simon the best of luck,” Lakers’ general manager and head coach Wayne Strachan said in a press release.
Desrosiers, a 6’1”, 192-pounder from Sainte-Julie, Que., recorded two goals and nine assists in 18 games with the Lakers last season.
He had joined the squad back on Jan. 9 in a trade with the Abitibi Eskimos of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, which saw the Lakers send a player development fee to the Eskimos.
In other news, the Lakers open their main training camp today, with the first on-ice session scheduled for 7 p.m. at the new Couchiching First Nation Arena.
The camp then moves to the Ice For Kids Arena for two sessions tomorrow (11:15 a.m. and 7:15 p.m.) and again Saturday (10:15 a.m. and 5:45 p.m.)
The Lakers begin their exhibition schedule next Friday (Sept. 6) at 7:30 p.m. when the Wisconsin Wilderness visit the IFK Arena.
