The Fort Frances Lakers have postponed their summer evaluation/tryout camp slated to run tomorrow through Sunday at Bronco Arena in International Falls.
No reason was given for the postponement other than the team saying the situation was “due to reasons out of our control.”
The Lakers plan to reschedule the camp at a later date.
Meanwhile, the Lakers are hoping some Maritime magic will help solidify their blueline corps this coming season.
Defenceman Craig Murray was signed yesterday after spending the last two seasons with the Weeks Major Midgets of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.
Murray, an 18-year-old native from New Glasgow, N.S., had four goals and 16 assists in 54 regular-season games with Weeks.
He added a goal and two assists in 11 playoff games.
“He is a very mobile, puck-carrying defenceman,” Lakers’ head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan said in a press release about the 5’9”, 160-pound rearguard.
“He likes to skate and has good speed, along with great agility and edge control,” Strachan noted.
“He also has excellent puck control skills and a solid shot,” he added. “He can quarterback a power-play unit.
“He has all the tools to be a capable offensive defenceman at the Junior ‘A’ level.”
Strachan said he feels Murray can come in and immediately help his hockey team.
“We are happy that Craig is joining the team and welcome him to the Lakers’ family,” he remarked.
