Dylan Robertson may be in line for yet another honour after a standout season.
The Fort Frances Lakers’ captain was nominated for the CJHL player-of-the-year award yesterday after the 20-year-old from Atlanta led the local squad to its third-straight SIJHL crown.
The honour is given annually to the player who best combines on-ice performance with off-ice responsibility.
Robertson already was chosen as the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions most valuable player in the SIJHL after
winning the scoring race with 88 points in 53 games.
He tacked on another 17 points in 10 post-season games to also wind up as the Gongshow Gear playoff MVP.
As well, Robertson was named the SIJHL’s top defensive forward and was a CCM Hockey 1st Team All-Star selection.
He will go up against nominees from the nine other Junior ‘A’ leagues in the country for the award, which will be handed out during the RBC Cup in Lloydminster, Alta./Sask. from May 14-24.
Two other Lakers did not make the cut for a pair of other major CJHL awards.
Nick Minerva was not among the five finalists for CJHL defenceman of the year—even though he led all Junior ‘A’ blueliners with 73 points during the regular season.
As well, forward Cole Tymkin passed over for the CJHL rookie-of-the-year honour, although he had more points in less games than finalist Kohen Olischefski of the Chilliwack Chiefs (BCHL).
The Lakers begin play at the Dudley Hewitt Cup this Tuesday against the host Kirkland Lake Gold Miners.
