Nick Minerva’s league-imposed holiday will be a short one.
The Fort Frances Lakers’ defenceman received an automatic one-game suspension from the SIJHL after incurring a game misconduct inside the final 10 minutes of the third period of Saturday’s 5-2 win over the visiting Dryden GM Ice Dogs.
But Minerva escaped any further discipline despite getting a match penalty for spearing Dryden’s Nic Noseworthy with 1:10 left.
The blueliner, who is the two-time reigning Gongshow Gear Inc. performer-of-the-month, leads all defencemen in scoring.
He also is tied for second with Nicholas Nigro (Thunder Bay North Stars) in overall league scoring with 42 points—two behind teammate Dylan Robertson (44).
Minerva will sit out this Saturday’s game against the visiting Minnesota Iron Rangers.
