For the third time in four years, the Rainy River Community College Voyageurs are the top of the class in the ACHA Division II women’s hockey ranks.
The Voyageurs captured the national title yesterday afternoon in Kalamazoo, Mich. with an 8-1 romp over the West Chester (Penn.) Golden Rams.
Leading the way for RRCC was forward Jessie Baker as the Emo native finished up the tournament by earning the MVP award.
Stevie-Lee Langford and Rainy River native Brenley Anderson also were key contributors during the tournament, with both being named to the first-team all-tournament roster.
After finishing the round-robin with 1-1 record in Pool ‘B,’ the Voyageurs edged the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 3-2 in Saturday night’s semi-final, which set up a rematch with the Golden Rams for the title game.
The Golden Rams had beaten the Voyageurs 4-1 on Saturday morning during their final round-robin game.
