LaBelle wins ladies’ bonspiel

It’s been a long time coming.
After years of disappointment, Judy LaBelle’s rink finally broke a string of second-place finishes as they won the 54th Fort Frances ladies’ bonspiel here Sunday afternoon.
LaBelle—along with third Nancy Evans, second Diane Bonot, and lead Trudy Badiuk—blanked Dana Kosowick’s rink 7-0 in just five ends to capture the ‘A’ championship.
“We curled this event many times and come in second many times,” the elated skip said following the game.
“This is the first time I’ve cracked it. It is a very good feeling.”
LaBelle cited her teammates as the main factor in the victory, praising the trio for their consistent play.
“My team curled super fine,” she enthused. “We’ve been curling well all weekend, though. We were putting them in there.
“We had good opposition, they just weren’t getting the breaks,” she added. “We just got the breaks.”
For their part, Kosowick’s rink—composed of third Charlotte Bazylewski, second Kim Williamson, and lead Kerry Zucchiatti—were simply happy to have made the ‘A’ final.
“We came in to it with no expectations,” Kosowick remarked. “This isn’t my normal curling team. We threw some players together. My normal skip is in Jamaica right now.
“We were just looking to have a good time this weekend and mission accomplished,” she added. “To make it to Sunday, we had a really good time.”
In other bonspiel action, Teresa McFayden’s rink downed Kris Sinclair 7-2 to capture the ‘B’ title while Jenna Enge’s Fort High rink blanked Tammy Lamb 11-0 to win the ‘C’ event.
