The Judy LaBelle rink from Fort Frances fell short in its bid to win the Northern Ontario senior women’s provincial playdowns in Kapuskasing over the weekend.
The foursome finished with a 2-4 record to miss making the playoffs.
Darla Esch (North Bay) captured the provincial title, earning a berth at the national playdowns in Abbotsford, B.C. next month, with a 7-6 win over Vicky Barrett (Sudbury) on Sunday morning.
LaBelle, joined by third Wendy Brunetta, second Maureen Thomson, and lead Trudy Badiuk, opened play Thursday afternoon with a 9-5 loss to Marion Clark (Thunder Bay) but bounced back with a 9-6 triumph over Danielle McLeod (Elliot Lake) that night.
A 6-2 loss to Barrett, followed by a 9-3 setback to Anne Cryderman (Sudbury), saw LaBelle slide down the standings after the first two draws Friday.
The rink recovered with a narrow 9-8 win over Barb McEwen (Thunder Bay) that night but then fell to Esch 9-4 in nine ends Saturday afternoon in the final draw of the round-robin.
