Cole Tymkin is going from being a King to a Knight—and he couldn’t be more thrilled about it.
The 16-year-old forward from Fort Frances was selected in the fifth round—91st overall—by the London Knights in Saturday’s OHL draft in Toronto.
“It’s a hard feeling to explain,” admitted Tymkin, who notched 64 points in 49 games with the Thunder Bay Minor Midget ‘AAA’ Kings this past season.
“To get drafted by one of the top organizations in not only the OHL but the CHL is amazing,” he enthused.
Stewart Robinson, one of London’s head scouts, was on the Kings’ coaching staff this season and tipped them off about Tymkin’s potential.
Now he has a shot at playing for the same organization that produced the likes of current NHL superstars Patrick Kane (Chicago), John Tavares (N.Y. Islanders), and Rick Nash (N.Y. Rangers), as well as Toronto Maple Leafs’ legend Darryl Sittler.
London is coached by Dale Hunter, whose 20-year NHL career was spent with the Quebec Nordiques, Washington Capitals, and Colorado Avalanche.
Tymkin will head to London’s rookie camp set for April 24-25.
