Klyne crew wins anniversary tourney

Earl Klyne’s team got the point—several of them, in fact.
Klyne and his team of Gus MacDonell, Steve Pruys, and Penny McComb were on their game last Thursday as they piled up 92 points to take the third-annual Kitchen Creek Golf Club anniversary tournament.
The event works on a points system similar to the Stableford scoring format used in The International tournament played on the PGA tour. Using the net score for each hole, each team receives four points for an eagle, three for a birdie, two for a par, and one for a bogey.
The best three-point totals from each player on the par-three holes are used, along with each of their best two scores on the par-fours and their best single score from the par-fives.
The foursome of Jeff Ogden, Brad Gushulak, Dave Hyatt, and Aarne Hahkala came in second with 88 points, nudging aside the team of Dave Bondett, Maurice Fillion, Dale Cooper, and Bill Wawryk, who took third with 87 points.

In other golf news, the youthful trio of Alex and Brad McDonald and Jordan Sinclair teamed up with Kitchen Creek junior instructor Brian Johnstone to capture the Golf Supply House Manitoba Pro-Junior Provincial Championship in Selkirk, Man. by four strokes.
The local team shot a collective round of 118, with the best net score from each hole going towards their final total.
For Sinclair and Johnstone, it was their second-straight win in the event after taking the crown as part of last year’s Kitchen Creek squad.
Meanwhile, the Kitchen Creek Senior Open title stayed in the possession of Snake Krawchuk, who repeated his feat of last year by winning the event three weeks ago.
A highlight event on the upcoming golf calendar will be The Rick Pearson Memorial Tournament on Monday. Proceeds will go towards the Kidney Society and the local dialysis unit. Registration for the four-person team tournament is at noon, with play to begin at approximately 1 p.m.
Other tournaments on the way at Kitchen Creek include the club championship this Saturday and Sunday, the Community Chest fundraiser (Aug. 8), the Kitchen Creek Ladies’ Open (Aug. 9); the Las Vegas Scramble (Aug. 10), and the Kitchen Creek Classic (Aug. 16-17).
