After struggling in their opener, the Isaac Keffer rink came to play at the Ontario Winter Games in Gravenhurst over the weekend.
Keffer and his rink of third Cody Ossachuk, second Cody Heyens, and lead Ian Grant lost 12-3 to Jack Lindsay (St. George’s Golf and Country Club) to kick off action last Thursday.
“The first game was hard because that team was pretty tough,” Keffer noted.
“We weren’t really in our mindset, I guess, being our first game,” he admitted.
But Keffer felt his rink improved after that initial stinger, bouncing back Friday morning with a 7-4 victory over Tanner Horgan (Idylwylde Golf and Country Club).
After dropping their next match to an old foe, falling 7-5 to Jordan Potter (Port Arthur) that afternoon, Keffer fell to 1-3 after losing a 7-6 squeaker Friday evening to eventual gold-medallist Ben Bevan (Annandale Country Club).
“That was just a really close game,” Keffer noted, adding Bevan just seemed to be able to make one extra shot that won him the game.
Keffer ended the tournament on a winning note, however, eking out a 5-4 win over Tyler Sagan (Westmount Golf and Country Club).
“We had two extremely close games that could have gone either way,” he reasoned.
Keffer felt his team’s shot of the tournament was made by Heyens, who provided some flair to the proceedings.
“He does a shot called the ‘farmer takeout’, where he lifts his rock, fires it ahead, and then does a triple-takeout,” Keffer enthused.
