Isaac Keffer got to see both sides of a three-game streak—but he could have done without the well-rounded perspective.
The former Muskie, who now curls out of the Port Arthur Curling Club in Thunder Bay, followed a trio of victories with a three-pack of losses to finish in a four-way tie for fourth at 3-4 at the junior men’s provincial championship in Longlac.
Keffer and his rink of third Zacharia Warkentin, second Joshua Szajewski, and lead Mike Zsakai were sailing along with a 3-1 record after a 10-5 win over Cedric Lachance (Longlac) on Friday afternoon.
But Friday evening’s 6-2 loss to Port Arthur clubmate and eventual champion Jordan Potter began a downward spiral for Keffer’s rink that it could not escape.
Keffer was edged 7-6 by Tanner Horgan (Sudbury) on Saturday morning, then wrapped up play that afternoon with an 8-6 defeat to Nick Dawson (Sault Ste. Marie).
Keffer had finished second at last year’s junior provincials.
Potter lost 7-2 to Horgan in the round-robin finale but still clinched first place in the standings at 6-1.
Then in the final, Potter eked revenge on Horgan—grabbing a 6-4 triumph to earn a trip to the M&M Meat Shops Canadian junior championships Jan. 18-26 in Liverpool, N.S.
