KCs have tough time in Brandon

The local K of Cs ‘AA’ PeeWee rep team dropped four of five games at a tournament in Brandon, Man. last week but still managed to come home as the ‘B’ side runners-up.
After coming up flat in round-robin play, losing all three of their games, the team picked up the pace in the ‘B’ semi-final by doubling the Selkirk Fishermen 6-3.
David Pierce (assisted by Tyler Miller and Scott McFayden) opened the scoring for the KCs, then Miller (Cody Dittaro) and Jared Catholique-Bruyere (Larry Pham/Shawn Egan) scored to make it 3-0.
Selkirk roared back in the second period, scoring a pair of goals to make it 3-2 after two, then tied it up early in the third.
But it was all KCs after that. Pierce (Alex McQuarrie) broke the tie before Justin Larson (Catholique-Bruyere) made it 5-3. Miller (Pierce/Pham) then iced the victory with less than two minutes to play.
That win put the KCs into the ‘B’ final against the Kenora Thistles but they came out on the short end of a 6-4 score although the locals had battled back from a 5-1 deficit to make it close.
The teams were tied at 1-1 after the first. Kenora had jumped out to the early lead but Larson (Bruyere/Dittaro) netted the equalizer.
Kenora scored twice in the second, then added two more goals in the third, to lead 5-1.
Larson (Andrew Perrault/Dittaro) brought the KCs to within 5-2 but Kenora regained their four-goal margin minutes later. Pierce (Egan) and Dittaro (unassisted) netted a pair of late goals but it wasn’t enough.
The KCs had opened the weekend with a 5-3 loss at the hands of the River East Marauders. Pierce, Larson, and Paul Dobransky scored in that one, with assists going to Pham (two), Pierce, Catholique-Bruyere, and Perrault.
Then they were hammered 11-1 by the Steinbach Millers in their second game. Catholique-Bruyere (Perrault) tallied the lone goal.
The KCs wrapped up round-robin play with a 9-2 loss to the Regina Kings. Perrault (Catholique-Bruyere) and Dobransky (Catholique-Bruyere/Larson) were the goal scorers in that one.
