The Fort Frances K of Cs skated away with a second-place showing from a “AA” PeeWee tournament in Kenora last weekend, losing their final game 6-2 to Red Lake.
The KCs scored first on Andrew Perrault’s goal (assisted by Alex McQuarrie) but the lead was short-lived as the Rockets came back to knot the score at 1-1 after one.
After Red Lake scored a pair of second-period goals to go up 3-1, Justin Larson (unassisted) brought the KCs to within one in the third.
But that was as close as they got as the Rockets tallied three more times to ice their 6-2 win and the gold medal.
The KCs got off to a slow start Friday night with a 3-1 loss to the Steinbach Millers.
After a scoreless first period, Steinbach went up 1-0 in the second but Paul Dobransky (assisted by Larry Pham) evened things up later in the period.
But the Millers got two more goals while holding the KCs off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
It was a different story in their second game against the Westfort Rangers on Saturday morning, with the KCs earning a 4-2 victory after getting goals from four different players.
Pham (unassisted) opened the scoring in the first. After Westfort tied the game less than 30 seconds later, Dobransky (Scott McFayden/Josh Sigurdson) and David Pierce (McFayden/Perrault) scored to give the KCs a 3-1 lead through two.
Perrault (unassisted) widened the gap to 4-1 in the third, with Westfort rounding out the scoring shortly afterwards.
The KCs then earned a 4-1 win over the McDonald’s Thistles (Kenora) in their third game. Perrault led the attack with two goals, with Shawn Egan and Larson adding singles.
Pierce (two), Egan, and Jared Catholique-Bruyere also notched assists.
Then in their fourth game against the APHA Rangers, the KCs gave up three first-period goals en route to a loss. Pham, Egan, and Perrault scored in a losing cause.
