Pat Handorgan of Morson teamed up with Fred Greene (Shoal Lake) to win the 15th-annual Kenora Bass International over the weekend.
The duo bagged 49.69 pounds over the three days en route to the $20,000 first prize. They also won “big catch” prizes for Day Two and Day Three, and “big fish” on Day Three yesterday.
Defending champs Oliver and Jason Gibbins of Sleeman finished second with 45.19 pounds, followed by Minnesota’s Gary Lake and Mark Allen in third with 43.47.
Bill Godin and Karl Howells were the highest local finishers, placing seventh overall with 41.14 pounds.
Other high local finishers were Rod Halliday and Chuck McCormick in 20th (36.21), Dale LaBelle and Jody Shypit in 27th (34.31), and Greg and James Asplund in 71st (28.62).
Among other notables were Jim Moynagh and Joe Thrun, coming off a third-place finish at the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship last month, in 11th place with 39.53 pounds.
The newly-crowned FFCBC champions, Norm Lindsay and Jess Swenson (Sioux Narrows), ended up in 37th overall with 32.94 pounds.
A total of 180 boats competed on the Lake of the Woods derby, including 12 full-fledged local teams.
