Kaun rink ousted

The Muskie boys’ curling team failed to qualify for the quarter-finals at the all-Ontarios in Mississauga after a 6-4 loss to Haliburton Highlands S.S. yesterday afternoon.
The loss left David Kaun’s rink with a 2-2 record, which wasn’t good enough to advance out of Pool ‘B.’
According to the OFSAA website, Haliburton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first but Kaun, whose rink included third Mike Badiuk, second Sean Murray, lead Travis Showalter, and alternate Ben Robinson—responded with a single in the second.
Haliburton scored three in the third to make it 4-1, but Kaun battled back with a deuce in the fourth to draw within one.
Haliburton regained their three-point margin with a deuce of their own in the fifth, then held Kaun to a single in the sixth to lead 6-4.
Kaun blanked the seventh end with the hammer, but then ran out of rocks in the eighth to end his hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals.
Haliburton and Parkside, who had beaten the Muskies 8-4 in their second game on Wednesday, moved on from Pool ‘B.’
The Muskies dumped Pope John Paul II 8-1 in their opening draw Wednesday morning, then rallied to beat Loyalist 7-6 yesterday morning to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The rink was coached by Tom Fry.
