Katapaytuyk honoured

Byron Katapaytuk did his share of helping last week, and the Superior International Junior Hockey League recognized him for it.
The Fort Frances Lakers’ centre had a pair of big games, setting up three goals in the squad’s 5-4 comeback win over Sioux Lookout here Friday before assisting on four others in a 6-4 victory against host Duluth on Sunday night.
Those huge efforts resulted in Katapaytuk being named the SIJHL Pizza Hut player of the week.
The four assists in Sunday’s game are a single-game high for the league this year.
The 19-year-old native of Moose Factory, Ont. currently is tied for fifth in the SIJHL scoring race with 26 points.
It was the second time the honour had been bestowed on a Lakers’ player this season.
Goalie Tyler Ampe earned the recognition for the week of Oct. 4.
Katapaytuk and the Lakers (17-8-1) will look to hold onto top spot in the SIJHL when they face the second-place Dryden Ice Dogs (17-12-0) today at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
Tonight also marks the team’s annual toy drive, where fans are encouraged to bring a new or slightly-used toy for the local Salvation Army and United Native Friendship Centre.
