Katapaytuk tops again

Fort Frances Lakers’ forward Byron Katapaytuk is on fire right now—and the SIJHL is taking notice.
Katapaytuk recorded five goals and two assists in two games over the weekend to earn his second-straight nod as the league’s player of the week.
That included a hat trick in Friday’s 6-3 win at Sioux Lookout and a three-point performance in a 6-2 home victory over Thunder Bay here Saturday.
The week was a scoring turnaround for the 19-year-old Moose Factory product, who was a play-maker in notching seven assists to earn the previous week’s award.
Katapaytuk’s efforts also have rocketed him up the SIJHL’s scoring race, now sitting third with 33 points.
Katapaytuk isn’t the only Laker to be honoured as player of the week, with goalie Tyler Ampe capturing the award for the week of Oct. 4.
He also isn’t the first to repeat. Dryden goalie Ian Perrier earned the honour for the weeks of Oct. 25 and Nov. 1.
Katapaytuk and the Lakers next will see action this Friday and Saturday (Dec. 10-11) in Thunder Bay before returning home for a game against Duluth on Monday (Dec. 13).
