Juniors given lesson on golfing etiquette

Calling them “future members,” Kitchen Creek golf pro Gord Workum taught almost 80 youngsters some of the finer points of the game during the first lesson of the Junior Swing class Monday night.
After being rained out the previous two weeks, Workum, along with five other instructors, finally had the chance to get out on the links, giving an informative lesson to some wide-eyed youngsters on golfing etiquette.
Workum stressed the importance of respecting the game, the course, and those playing in order to ensure your round is an enjoyable one.
And while Workum expects even more kids to come out for next week’s lesson (the program runs for five consecutive weeks), he said he was more than pleased with the first turnout.
The format also allowed the juniors the chance to jump in with questions or comments during the lesson.
“It’s important to make sure to get feedback from the players because they are the ones that are going to be the future of the club,” said Workum.
“You look at any golf course and the future is with their juniors,” he noted. “They are the ones that are going to be running the course in the next 20 to 30 years.”
The youngsters also had a chance to practise everyone’s favourite part of the game–the art of putting.
Next week, Workum said the group will continue to work on their short game and be introduced to chipping.
