Juniors first to fall to Diggers

The Fort Frances Juniors probably would have preferred to be a trivia answer of a different kind.
The Juniors who go down in the record books as the first squad to fall to the expansion Dawson Diggers, who notched their first win in team history yesterday with a 14-11 victory at VanJura in a make-up game from May 13.
Alicia Anderson pitched Dawson (1-3) to the win despite allowing home runs to Rylee Redford and Danielle Jackson.
Sara Jackson took the loss in her first start of the season for the Juniors (1-3).
A make-up game from May 11 saw the host Big Grassy Lynx (4-0) win a duel for first place with the Couchiching Lady Raiders in convincing fashion by a 22-8 score.
The Lady Raiders (3-2) now have lost two-straight.
Meanwhile, the Fort Frances Herricanes (3-1) leapfrogged Couchiching into second place after their game at VanJura was forfeited by the Big Island Wildcats (1-3-1).
League action resumes tonight, with the feature game locally being an all-Fort match-up between the Herricanes and the Mud Dogs (1-2-1) at VanJura at 6:30 p.m.
The Juniors are in Couchiching to face the Lady Raiders while the Red Gut Babes (1-1-1) host Sabaskong Tebinaak (1-3).
The Sabaskong Cougars (2-1) visit Big Grassy, the Manitou Blaze (2-1) are in Big Island, and the Diggers travel to Northwest Bay (1-2-1).
