The Muskies junior boys volleyball team could have folded the tent yesterday afternoon. Instead, they put a stake through the heart of their unhappy hosts.
Trailing 2-1, the Muskies (2-4) didn’t falter and motored back for a 3-2 win over the Kenora Broncos on the road in NorWOSSA play.
Fort Frances dropped the first game 25-23, then won the second 25-20 before falling 25-23 in a tight third set.
Undaunted, the Muskies dusted themselves off and nabbed a 26-24 win in the fourth, before finishing off the comeback with a 15-12 win in the fifth.
Time is growing short for the Muskie senior boys spikers to establish themselves as a threat for the NorWOSSA title next month.
After dropping the first two sets, Fort Frances (0-6) showed some life before succumbing 3-1 to the Broncos to remain winless for the year.
Kenora scored 25-13 and 25-22 victories to start the match, before the Muskies stole a 25-19 win in the third. But it was no contest in the fourth, as the Broncos cruised to a 25-9 win.
“We played some phenomenal volleyball at times, and then we just started missing serves and not making the plays we needed to make,” said Muskies assistant coach John Gibson. “I don’t know what to say anymore.”
The next NorWOSSA games for both sides is Oct. 30, when they host the Dryden Eagles.
