Juniors boys thump Kenora

The Muskie junior boys’ basketball team dominated the court here last Thursday en route to a 44-28 victory over the Kenora Broncos to improve their NorWOSSA record to 2-0.
“I was surprised when I looked up and saw that we were up by a decent margin,” head coach Dave Ashworth noted after the game.
The black-and-gold had lost to the Broncos in tournament action earlier this month so the juniors were determined to win last week’s contest.
Kevin Gemmell led the Muskies with 12 points, with Andrew Mueller netting seven. Billy Whitecrow, Adam Bowes, Kurtis Wepruk, and Rick Ricard chipped in four apiece, Keith McKay had three, and Mark Buist, Tanner Ward, and Anwar Cheblaoui all had two.
Ashworth noted everyone got to play, which he said is something he tries to do every game.
“It was a great game–fairly tight,” he remarked. “They showed excellent discipline. They also executed the plays well on offence and defence.”
And Ashworth said his players shouldn’t have a problem knocking off the Broncos tomorrow up there unless they lose their composure.
“Our biggest problem in our first game was the players losing composure and getting down on themselves,” he recalled. “If they can keep their cool, they’ll be fine.”
Ashworth added he’s fairly confident about how the players will perform but admitted you never know until the game unfolds.
In practice, they have been trying to add a few new presses and defences to their play book.
