The Adam Bolen rink, representing the Fort Frances Curling Club), is winless through three draws to start the Northwestern Ontario junior men’s playdowns in Thunder Bay.
The rink, which includes David Kaun, Chris Jodoin, and Michael McKay, dropped to 0-3 with a narrow 9-8 loss to Taylor Kallos (Fort William Curling Club) this morning.
They had opened action yesterday with a 7-3 loss to Jeff Sargent (Port Arthur Curling Club) and then an 8-6 setback to the rink from the Marathon Curling Club.
They hit the ice again this afternoon at 1 p.m. (CST) against Andrew McMillan of the Eagle’s Landing Curling Club in Dryden (results were not available by press time).
They will wrap up play on Day 2 against Mike Frostiak (Red Lake Curling Club) at 8 p.m. (CST).
Round-robin action wraps up tomorrow, with Bolen facing Trevor Bonot (Port Arthur Curling Club) at 8 a.m. and then Andrew Brown (Geraldton Curling Club) at 1 p.m. (all times are CST).
Any tie-breakers, if needed, are slated for 5 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at 8 a.m.
The top two teams advance to the provincial championships Jan. 13-15 in Kapuskasing.
Meanwhile, the Amy Nielson rink, representing the Fort Frances Curling Club at the four-team junior women’s playdowns in Dryden, sported a 1-2 record after falling to the Lianne Fossum rink (Port Arthur Curling Club) 10-4 in eight ends this morning.
The rink, which also includes Jenna Enge, Kate Bondett, and Courtney Beadle, opened with a 10-3 win over Courtney Lennon (Longlac) yesterday, but followed that with a 9-3 loss to Ashley Miharja (Fort William Curling Club).
They next will face Miharja at 3 p.m. today and then Lennon at 9 p.m., then will wrap up round-robin play tomorrow at 10 a.m. against Fossum.
Tie-breakers, if necessary, are slated for 2 p.m.
The top two teams will advance to the provincials next month.
