Fort Frances resident Lorne Jackson earned a thrilling 9-7 win over Brian Adams Jr. (Port Arthur) in his opening match at the Dominion Canada Northern Ontario men’s curling championships last night in Sudbury.
Jackson got off to a quick start against Adams Jr., building a 6-0 lead through five ends of play.
Then after both teams exchanged singles, Adams Jr. mounted a late comeback—scoring six over the final three ends to tie the game at 7-7 and force an extra end.
However, Adams Jr.’s comeback attempt ultimately would come up short as Jackson scored a deuce in the extra end to earn the victory.
Jackson (1-0), who had a bye in this afternoon’s draw, will look to remain undefeated when he faces Al Harnden’s Sault Ste. Marie rink (0-1) tonight at 7:30 p.m. (EST).
Nine teams from across the region are vying for the right to represent Northern Ontario at the Tim Hortons Brier coming up March 3-11 in Hamilton.
