Kathie Jackson opened the 2013 Dominion Curling Club Championship provincial playdowns on a winning note this morning in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Fort Frances Curling Club rink cruised to a 9-3 win in just five ends over Susan Lammi (Fort William Curling Club).
Jackson, who is joined by third Teresa McFayden, second Lisa Penner, and lead Kris Sinclair, found themselves trailing 3-1 after three ends, but took control of the game with a five-ender in the fourth.
They stole three more points in the fifth to seal the victory.
Jackson was back in action at Soo Curlers this afternoon against Danielle McLeod (Elliot Lake), then will face Sudbury’s Janice Vettoretti at 7:30 p.m.
The local rink will wrap up its round-robin slate tomorrow with a 9:30 a.m. clash against Shelley Petitclerc (Englehart), followed by a 2 p.m. showdown with defending provincial champ Karen Saarimaki (Geraldton).
The final will be held Sunday at either 9 a.m. or 1 p.m., depending if any tie-breakers are required.
The winner moves on to represent Northern Ontario at the national playdowns in November in Thunder Bay.
