Jackson rink splits first two

If a local rink is going to qualify for men’s provincial playdowns being held here Feb. 10-14, thaey’re going to have to go the long route.
Lorne Jackson and his team of Don DeBenedet, Raymond Roy, and Todd Moxham took a step in the right direction this morning with a 9-2 win over Greg Kawahara (Thunder Bay) to even their record at 1-1 at the inter-regional qualifying event in Atikokan.
Jackson had opened action yesterday with a 9-3 loss to Chris Briand (Thunder Bay).
Jackson next was scheduled to meet Brian Adams (Thunder Bay) this afternoon (the outcome wasn’t available as of press time).
Meanwhile, Anthony Smaha and his rink of Brian Johnstone, Craig Armstrong, and Butch Wensley fell 9-4 to Adams yesterday, then lost 8-5 to Mike Assad (Thunder Bay) this morning to drop down to the ‘C’ side.
They’ll have to beat Allen Macsemchuk (Kakabeka Falls) in their next game to remain in the hunt for a provincial berth.
