Jackson rink on the brink

The Lorne Jackson rink of Fort Frances faced a must-win situation in their draw which started at noon (EST) today in order to stay alive at the Northwestern Ontario men’s curling playdowns in Terrace Bay.
They were up against Wayne Hampson of Red Lake (the outcome wasn’t known by press time).
Jackson’s rink, which also includes Don DeBenedet, Derek Jackson, and Mike Kjerulf, lost their first game yesterday afternoon by an 11-3 score to Marshall Bagdon (Kakabeka Falls), then fell 7-6 to Jeff Zechner (Nipigon) last night.
Jackson had led 4-2 after seven ends, but Zechner answered with a three-ender in the eighth to lead 5-4.
Jackson battled back with a deuce in the ninth, but Zechner did the same thing with the hammer in the 10th to pull out the win.
The event wraps up on Sunday, with the top three teams advancing to the provincial playdowns in Haileybury in early February.
