A berth to the senior men’s provincials just wasn’t in the cards for the Lorne Jackson rink.
Team Jackson compiled a 1-3 record and fell short of advancing at the west qualifier held on Friday and Saturday in Terrace Bay.
The local squad, which features Lorne’s father, Jim, at lead, along with Derek Jackson (second) and James Jackson (third), opened play on Friday morning with a 6-2 loss to the Scott Henderson (Fort William) rink.
But the “Jackson Four” rebounded with a big 10-4 win over Kent Maarup (Port Arthur) in just five ends that afternoon.
The squad scored two in the first end, five in the third, before tacking on another three in the fifth to seal the victory.
But that good fortune didn’t last as they were dumped 8-3 by Frank Morissette (Fort William) on Saturday morning.
Team Jackson then ended play that afternoon with a narrow 6-5 loss to Ron Rosengren (Port Arthur).
They actually led 5-3 heading into the eighth end, but Rosengren scored three in the frame to pull out the win.
Rosengren, Morissette, and Henderson all nabbed berths to the provincials with identical 3-1 records, which is slated for Jan. 15-19 in Sturgeon Falls.
