It was a tough weekend for the local Lorne Jackson rink at the Curling Club Provincial Championships in Thunder Bay.
The squad, which also is comprised of Derek Jackson (third), Mark Pedersen (second), and Ed Vold (lead), compiled a 1-4 record in the six-team field and failed to advance to the playoffs.
Jackson opened play on Thursday night with a 6-2 loss to Ben Mikkelsen of the host Port Arthur CC.
The squad then suffered a tough 6-4 setback to Ben Graham (Sault Ste. Marie) the following afternoon.
Tied at 4-4 heading into the ninth end, Graham scored a deuce to pull out the win.
But the rink bounced back with their lone win of the weekend that evening with a 8-2 romp over Serge Palin (North Bay) in just six ends.
Unfortunately, Jackson was unable to build off that momentum and was edged 6-5 by Claude Lapointe (Timmins) on Saturday morning before wrapping up play with a 5-0 loss to Brian Adams (Geraldton) that afternoon that was conceded after just four ends.
Mikkelsen claimed the men’s title with a narrow 8-6 win over Lapointe on Sunday morning while Tracey Larocque (Thunder Bay) downed Jodi Judd (Thunder Bay) 6-4 to claim the women’s crown.
