Jackson rink atop the standings

The Jim Jackson rink (Fort Frances) slipped to 3-1 at the senior men’s association playdowns being played in Kenora.
Jackson, along with third Rob Sinclair, second Glen Jackson, and lead Stan Cottam, shook hands after the fifth end this morning in a 8-2 loss to Alan Hicks (Kenora).
Jackson will play the Bryan Bonot rink (Stratton) at 4 p.m. today, with Bonot sitting at 1-3 record after losing 8-5 to George Coles (Dryden) in the seventh end at press time.
Eight teams are vying for a berth to the provincials.
On the women’s side, which also is being played in Kenora, the Fort Frances rinks of Judy LaBelle and Florence Ogden both were 0-1 to start the playdowns, which features six teams.
LaBelle, along with third Nancy Evans, second Diane Bonot, lead Sally Stewart, and fifth Pat Steele, narrowly lost to Norann Dunbar (Kenora) 12-11 early this morning.
They next faced Eila Brown (Port Arthur Curling Club) at noon today (the result was not known by press time).
Ogden, who along with third Joanne Hyatt, second Lorna Robinson, and lead Gladys Kerr, were downed 10-7 by Muriel Anderson (Sioux Lookout) and next played Madeline Gilbart (Fort William Curling Club).
